Guerlain is one of the oldest French perfume houses, which created many successful fragrances.

Guerlain was founded in 1828 by Pierre Francois Pascal Guerlain, who obtained  chemical education in England. At first perfume house existed as a chemist’s shop, in the basement Guerlain mixed their scents.

25 years later at the wedding of Napoleon III, Francois Pascal Guerlain presented to Spanish princess cologne Imperial, specially created for this event, in a crystal flacon with gilt reliefs of bees, the symbol of the house of Napoleon. Fragrance cologne so bewitched princess, that she appointed Guerlain chief perfumer Court of His Majesty. So golden bee became the symbol of the Guerlain house. Since then, the unique flavors of Guerlain created for many more unique people: Sarah Bernhardt, Balzac, Kings of England and Spain.

Guerlain

After Pierre Francois Guerlain chief perfumer of the house became his son Aimé Guerlain. Aimé Guerlain has made great strides in the development of a family business, one after another, producing successful fragrances. Exactly Aimé Guerlain  spread perfume into three components: the head note, which creates a first impression, a note of the heart, which sounds after the evaporation of the head, and a base note – the smell left by the passing scented man.

Further more Eme Gerlem was the pioneer who combined natural and sinthetic components and created the first unisex fragrance, Guerlain Jicky (1889).

After Aimé Guerlain company headed by his nephews, Jacques and Pierre Guerlain, who in turn brought the spirits of the world fame and glory, including through the creation of perfumes for movie stars and singers.

Creating a perfume is a work of art, according to Guerlain. To create a Guerlain perfume used flowers grown in Grasse, perfume capital. Only in Grasse grows a jasmine with unique scent, which gives a special appeal so royal perfume as Guerlain Shalimar. Few companies can afford to growing flowers in these places. Most perfume houses contain the flower fields in Asia, where labor is cheaper. However, it is difficult to compare with the quality of Grass.

Collected flowers delivered immediately to the plant, which produces the extraction process, which lasts six hours. The result is an essential oil and specifics, which can be kept for three years. Small quantities of specifics are sent to a laboratory where it was converted into a liquid, called the absolute. Every major perfume house has a “nose”, the so-called perfumer,  who decides to be the new spirits or not. Nose tries absolute and gives the nod to its use for the manufacture of perfumes.

Guerlain Jean-Paul Guerlain

The last hereditary nose-house perfumer Guerlain was Jean-Paul Guerlain, which had lost his sight at an early age. Jean-Paul Guerlain stores in memory around 3000 scents, considering the smell of the most intense form of memories. What remains of the most beautiful woman in the world when turning off the lights, there is only the smell and the charm of her voice.

In 2002, Jean-Paul Guerlain sold the company to LVMH, which owns the brand Guerlain, and to this day. In collaboration with Jean Paul Guerlain to create Guerlain fragrances now runs the company chief perfumer Thierry Vosser.
